ROYAL COLUMBIAN
DESCRIPTION
This is an asymmetrical tartan produced by Aljean, who were Vancouver clothing manufacturers and marketed by Tartans International, Vancouver. It was created to commemorate the founding of New Westminster and the work done in the province by a body of men from the Corps of Royal Engineers who became familiarly known as the Columbia Detachment. The 150 officers and men arrived in BC in 1858 to help develop the mainland area around Princeton and Hope.
