TARTANS   OF   CANADA

PREV       COMMEMORATIVE       NEXT

CANADIAN CENTENNIAL

DESCRIPTION

The Scottish Tartans Authority note that this tartan was designed by Arthur Bottomly of MacArthur’s of Hamilton (since 2002, Biggar’s of Hamilton) in Scotland to mark the nation’s centenary in 1967, and that it was the only tartan to receive the formal approval of the Centennial Commission. However, it was registered in August of 1966 with CIPO by Harold and Henry Weller, trading as Centennial Tartan.

The blue, green, yellow and black are said to mark Canada’s natural resources, while the red and white represent the national flag.
