The tartan was designed by Lochcarron of Scotland and is based on the Black Watch Tartan reflecting the close ties between the Tattoo and the Black Watch.
The three services are represented in the tartan, the Navy by dark blue, the Army by red and the Air Force by light blue. The red also symbolises the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Canada itself. The province of Nova Scotia is represented by a wide golden thread, supported on either side by the Canadian red and further represented by the light blue of ‘Canada’s Seacoast,’ the province’s current tourism slogan.
