DESCRIPTION

This tartan was woven for McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. The colours in the tartan are drawn from the McGill shield and flag, the Macdonald (Campus/College) shield and flag, the flag of Canada, the flag of Quebec and the flag of the City of Montreal.

Red, in McGill's shade, is emblematic of the flags of Canada and Montreal;
White is common to all of the flags;
Blue is in the same shade as the blue of the Quebec flag and is emblematic of the Montreal flag;
Green, as in the Macdonald flag and emblematic of the symbols appearing in the flag of Montreal;
Gold, as in the Macdonald flag.
